And he did. God, he did. Even after knowing the man less than two days, Barrett had come to crave the feel of Mordecai, the taste of his skin, the absolute wantonness the man invoked in him. He’d never been with anyone so comfortable with himself, and it was as though some of that was rubbing off on Barrett. If only he could find how to drive Mordecai equally out of his mind.

At last, Mordecai pulled back. “I should probably get going.”

Barrett tugged him back down. “Not yet.”

Rather than argue, Mordecai settled again, folding his hands on Barrett’s chest and resting his chin there. “What’s next?”

Folding his arm behind his head, Barrett blew out a breath.

“Frank’s going around checking all the tack in town. I suppose the smartest thing for me to do is pay a visit to all the mines, introduce myself as the new lawman and see if I notice anything suspicious.
