Tori and Julian strolled into work holding hands. Where they couldn’t do that in a normal office, when you were the boss, it was your way or the highway.
At the coffee machine, he stole a few more kisses and whispered in his wife’s ear about what he wanted to do later when work was done.
Julian was hoping to cut out at a decent time today, unless they had more information coming in on Melissa. Unfortunately, it appeared that this case was stalling.
What they needed was something to get it moving again, or he knew it was dead in the water. It wasn’t going to be easy to work this without making everyone aware that the abductions were connected, but they had to try.
It was time for a little miracle.
“Hey, are you two busy?” Kane said from the doorway.
“That depends on your perspective,” he replied.
Tori grinned over at Kane and elbowed Julian. “We’re available. What did you find?” she asked, leading her husband from the room. When he patted her on the ass, she ignored him.
“Chrissy and I looked over the phone records for Melissa Lagerfeld.”
“Okay,” Julian stated, taking a seat beside his wife. “Did you find anything?”
“Yes and no. We found out that Brock Edwards was still calling Melissa. We think that he was stalking her.”
“What?” Tori asked. That definitely had her attention. “What gives you that impression?”
Christina took over for Kane, “Look at the duration of the calls. He was calling almost every hour, on the hour, and they lasted less than a minute.”
“So, she would answer and tell him kiss off.” Tori found that interesting.
“Also, look at her texts,” Christina said. “She received over eight hundred in one month.”
Tori wasn’t getting it. “I get a lot of texts too. Julian sends me ones from his office when I’m in the next room, just to send me a smiley face.”
They started laughing.
“Sue me, I’m a romantic,” he muttered.
Christina clarified, “Yeah, but look at her outgoing number of texts. The quantity isn’t even. I’m betting when Julian sends you a message, you reply, right?”
She thought about it. “Yeah, I always do.”
“She only sent three hundred and twenty texts.”
“That’s less than half,” Tori stated. “She was blowing his messages off and not talking to him more than turning the call on and shutting it off.”
Christina nodded. “Or she was dumping it in voicemail.”
“That looks like stalking to me,” stated Julian. “That gives us a person to focus on for now.”
Tori thought about it. “Kane, did you and Christina have breakfast?”
He looked at his boss like she’d lost her mind. “Uh, no, we aren’t breakfast eaters. We just have coffee, why?”
“There’s a coffee shop right next to the paramedic building, and I’m betting that’s where they hang out when they’re not on duty or there isn’t a call. Maybe you should go eat there.”
He still stared at her.
Christina giggled and took his hand in hers. “She’s telling us to go sit there and eavesdrop.”
“Oh,” he said, grinning. “I can go sit with Chrissy and drink coffee all morning.
