“I’ve been avoiding thinking about this, but...I’m worried that I’m too far gone to ever go back to the way things were. With the magic and with my humanity, definitely. But mostly with Heather. Up to this point I’ve been great at keeping myself alive, always finding a loophole to slip through or a path to slink away on. But with her, I’m not sure I’ll be able to do the same if it ever becomes necessary.

Though, what am I saying? I know I won’t be able to. I’ve already failed that test a few times, throwing my own life on the table just to keep her safe. Which is...wow. I’ve faced monsters and demons and zombie constructs and a giant freaking dragon...and it turns out the most dangerous thing among them was me. And while I could almost excuse that when the choices are bleak and coming fast, even now as I’m writing this from a comfy chair and with time to apply common sense...I still don’t know that there’s anything I wouldn’t do for her. Yikes. Why does that feel so huge? And why can’t I decide if it’s stupid or wonderful?”
