In bar one of example 4za, I created a double-stop lick around the A Blues scale. In bar two I created a turnaround that used an E7#9 chord. This is commonly referred to as the ‘Hendrix chord’.

Example 4zb combines all the ideas from the second half of this chapter to form a Twelve-Bar Blues arrangement. I recommend listening to the audio track a few times before leaving this example.

By now, you should feel comfortable with the Twelve-Bar Blues structure, how to create riffs, and blend them with licks. The Twelve-Bar Blues will form the basis for many future chapters, so make sure it feels comfortable before you move on.
