Exhausted but buzzing, Gabe’s trailer was alive with laughter and chatter and the clinking of glasses. We were onto our third bottle of champagne, Misty was drunk as a skunk, Gabe laughing at her antics, Mario still reciting parts from his monologue.

I thanked them all and applauded them all. Told them how proud I was. Told them it just couldn’t have gone any better.

But Drake proved me wrong when he stepped inside the trailer. He looked at me with, I don’t know, approval perhaps. Maybe even a little admiration.

He took a wad of bills from his pocket, dropped it on the table.

‘Call it a bonus,’ he said, ‘or a pay hike,’ he looked from Misty to Mario.

Then he looked at me. ‘Impressive,’ he said, tipped his imaginary hat and then left, no doubt he had a whore or two to see to.

Mario counted the cash. ‘One thousand bucks!’

None of us could believe it.

‘Drake wouldn’t give his shit away,’ Misty said.

I sighed a theatrical sigh. ‘It simply means we are the best of the best.’

‘The crème de la crème,’ Mario said.

‘Two-fifty each,’ Misty said, ‘what you gonna buy? I fancy a huge dildo for starters. You know, stretch me a bit.’ She winked and I raised an eyebrow.

‘It’s five hundred each,’ I said. ‘That money goes to you and Mario.’

‘Wow,’ Misty said, ‘thanks. I’m gonna get a butt plug, too.’
