“Another human interloper has been terminated, Section Leader 17. This structure is now secure.” Soldier 335 didn’t wait for orders as he moved to the next building.

Section Leader 17 landed nearby. Securing his ornithopter flight pack, he strode over to examine the latest kill. He had to get close to see the necessary detail, looking over the human’s distinguishing characteristics.

“What does Subthinker 4 expect? All these humans look the same; how are we supposed to find the one called Mitch without a few casualties?” Section Leader 17 lamented as he looked again at Lady McElroy. “And they are wrapped in textiles!” he said as he tore away the front of her clothes. “Another human female, according to the anatomy the winged one explained to us. Are all of these humans female?”

His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of weapons fire. “Soldiers, report!” he demanded when he exited the oversized garage bay.

“Sir, a firefight has erupted near one of the larger buildings."

Section Leader 17 moved over to where one of the soldiers was shooting at a large concrete building.

“My shard caster is not penetrating the structure!”

Observing, Section Leader 17 came to the same conclusion. “Bring the stone burners forward. Have one of the rock cutters fire his weapon at the side facing us.”
