— Athena —

I studied every breath and every weak movement Azazel made before channelling all my strength into each blow I counterattacked with.

So far, I wasn't out of breath, but Azazel seemed to be losing his balance with every step he took toward me.

“What is the matter, demon king?” I asked tauntingly. “Too old to fight me?” With one blow, I kicked him into the barrier and he bounced back like a pebble skipping on water.

Azazel smiled before whipping his hair out of the way, looking up at me with a vile smile on his face. “Just waiting for an opening,” he said before coughing out black ooze that should have been blood.

He lunged forward, and I cursed before staggering backward. He had used his sword to slice into my left leg. I dropped to one knee and looked up to where he had managed to get up.

“Get up, Athena!” Astraia shouted from behind me. Azazel brought his poisonous sword down once again and I blocked it. The ringing noise our swords produced was like a song still unwritten in my ears.

I noticed the wound on my leg wasn’t healing, and I cursed again before pushing myself up and using my other sword to plunge into Azazel’s chest.

As he dropped to his knees, I twisted my sword deeper into him until it poked out the other side. “That is for my father,” I told him. I twisted further until it went fully into him. “And this is for—”

I gasped at the sharp pain in my abdomen and my gaze shot to Astraia in shock before locking eye contact with Azazel, who pulled the blade out and aimed to strike for my heart. I stopped it inches from my pounding chest but I started to feel lightheaded as my other wounds began to weaken me.

It was only when I staggered a bit that Azazl caught me by surprise, slicing through my hands, his sword finding its mark. I dropped to my knees, blood trickling out of me from all my wounds that would not heal.

“Athena, get up,” Astraia begged and I simply turned my head toward her. “Run, Astraia, run."
