Chapter Six

Sunlight coming in through the window woke Marcus, and for a moment he was disoriented by the feeling of a warm body pressed so close to his. Then memories of claiming Kody flooded back. He snapped open his eyes and inhaled deeply. My mate. Kody’s scent had changed subtly, a part of the claiming process. It warned off other Alphas, marking him as already taken.

It seemed Kody was doing some claiming of his own. His lover’s head was pillowed on Marcus’s shoulder, one arm was slung across his chest, and Kody’s left leg was draped over Marcus’s. There was no way for Marcus to move without Kody being instantly aware.

Not that Marcus wanted to. He wanted Kody to wake in his arms. A soft sound escaped Kody’s lips, a half whine, half purr as he started to wake. Marcus simply waited. There was no hurry. He’d tell the rest of his family at breakfast. He knew they’d all be delighted. Well. Maybe all but one. Marcus pushed aside his worry about Diana. They’d been friends for years. Surely she’d want his happiness.

“Marcus. It wasn’t a dream.” Kody’s voice was rough with sleep, and he gazed up at him.

“No dream.” Marcus nuzzled his lover’s hair. “Very, very real. We’re mated.”

“You claimed me.”

The tone of wonder in Kody’s voice made Marcus even more protective. He manoeuvred their bodies so that Kody lay draped on his chest, and they could look into each other’s eyes. “Yes, I claimed you. But I’m yours as much as you’re mine. If anyone tries to touch you, they’ll have me to answer to.”

Marcus hoped that Liam had taken notice of his warning to stay away. He didn’t want trouble. His little piece of paradise had been an idyllic refuge for so long. But if anyone tries to take what’s mine, he’ll rue the day he was born.

Kody nuzzled at Marcus’s throat, and he tilted his head so his lover had better access. He smiled at the tiny nip followed immediately by Kody’s gentle tongue.

“Mine,” Kody whispered.

“Yours.” Marcus slid a hand behind Kody’s skull and angled his lover’s head for a kiss. He darted his tongue back and forth until Kody’s followed it into Marcus’s mouth, and he sucked it languorously. The urge to make love again was almost overwhelming, but Marcus wanted to prove to Kody that their mating was about more than just sex.

Kody purred as the kiss ended, and Marcus felt the reverberation deep in his own chest. The pleasured sound made Marcus’s heart swell and his cock twitch. He rolled their bodies so he was above Kody and peppered his lover’s face with kisses, until Kody laughed out loud.

“As tempting as it is to spend the day in bed with you, I want to show you to my family. I want them to share in my happiness, and know you’re my mate.”

Kody looked up at him, and a shy smile curved his lips. “You do? So soon?”

“There’s no going back, my love,” Marcus said.
