When she got back to the condo, she was still in shock and couldn’t wait to tell Rick. He opened the door as she came in and wrapped her arms around him.

“She came on to me!”

“Like, came on to you sexually?”

“Yes, apparently she’s bi. She wants to see me again. I don’t know what to do.”

“I guess you’re gonna have to take one for the team, Jules—I mean, Valentina,” said Rick, bent over laughing.

“Not funny, Rick Waters! I don’t swing that way.”

“I know, honey. I’m just messing with you. But maybe you can get to know her a little better and just let her know your boundaries.”

Jules bit her lip. “That’s true. I mean, we didn’t even know she liked women. Maybe that info can help the case?”

“It’s possible. I’m gonna try and find out if she went out with any women. It didn’t even cross my mind before,” said Rick.

“She also told me that the jewelry Johnie was charged with stealing was insured for $3.5 million, and that she had a prenup where she’d get nothing. Apparently, the insurance company is offering one million dollars for the return of the jewelry. Have you ever heard of such a thing? Do insurance companies offer rewards?”

Possum chimed in. “I’ve been going through all the files in her computer, through the hard drives I switched out last night. She indeed had the jewelry insured through Lloyd’s of London for three and a half million dollars. They are a unique insurance company and will do things most insurance companies won’t do. They insured Betty Grable’s legs, Tom Jones’s chest hair, and Springsteen’s voice. They have in the past offered rewards, including a reward for the return of jewels stolen from an exhibition in the French resort city of Cannes.”

“So, if someone finds the jewelry, they will receive the reward, no questions asked?” asked Jules.

“That’s correct. Even if they are returned by the thief himself. Now, I’m sure Okaloosa’s finest will have questions, but Lloyd’s of London will pay the reward. Period,” said Possum.

With that comment, Rick glanced over at them both with a wicked grin on his face.

“Treasure hunt?”

“I’m already on it, Rick. I’m going through every email and message she’s sent. It’s tedious, but she’s a drinker, and at some point, I’m sure the alcohol will override her better judgment, and she’s gonna slip or already slipped and left a clue. It could mean a million-dollar jackpot reward and more importantly, clearing Johnie of any wrongdoing,” replied Possum.

“I wanna play!” piped up Jules.

“You’ve been playing since day one, Valentina,” said Rick.

Jules punched him playfully in the arm.
