âAre you seriously still mad?â Mykel stood on my porch with some roses and a nicely wrapped basket. It had a lot of goodies to choose from. There were gift cards to some of my favorite restaurants, Carolina Herrera Good Girl Blush perfume, Bath and Body Works lotions, a candle, and a mystery box.
âYou damn right I am. You embarrassed me in front of hundreds of people. At somebodyâs funeral for crying out loud.â I stood in the doorframe torn because I loved this man, but lately, he hadnât been giving what he was supposed to give.
âCan you please let me in? I havenât been able to focus because Iâve been thinking about you. I donât like when youâre not talking to me. I feel so empty. I miss you.â Mykel laid it on thick.
âI bet you do. Iâve been fighting for your time and now all of a sudden youâre not too busy for me? How ironic.â I still wasnât budging.
âI told you once this proposal is submitted we can start enjoying our date nights again. Itâs been submitted and now we have to wait on approval. Which can take anywhere between a few weeks to a few years. Iâm all yours, baby.â Mykel held his arms out giving me access to him.
âIâm still a little pissed but Iâm going to give you the benefit of the doubt. My love for you wonât let me give up. Youâve been under a lot of stress lately, so I get it.â I grabbed the roses and moved to the side to let him in.
âMe being under stress didnât have anything to do with it though.â Mykel placed the gift basket on the table.
âWhat do you mean?â
âI need you to stay away from him.â
âStay away from who?â I kind of knew who he was talking about, but I wanted to make sure first. I put the flowers on the table to disconnect eye contact.
âYour ex, thatâs who. I saw the way he was looking at you.â Mykel looked for a reaction from me.
âListen, I donât know what you want me to do. Iceland is a grown ass man who has to deal with whatever he has going on. I donât even remember him.â My dreams didnât count.
âYou donât have to remember the connection to feel the chemistry.â Mykel had a valid point.
The time I spent with Iceland at the Blue Palace and The Healing Collective was interesting to say the least. Although I didnât remember a lot from our past encounters and experiences, we did vibe to my new wave. We smoked, we laughed, and we tried our best to come up with a plan so I didnât get robbed again. It was Icelandâs way of keeping his mind off his mother and I was OK with that. There was something about Iceland that I couldnât quite put my finger on yet.
âOnce we are finished with Ms. Pearlâs requests, Iceland is going to go back to his life and Iâll be here.â Iâm sure my words didnât change how Mykel felt.
