“Iknow you're worried about what your dad might say.”

As Marcus says this, he gives my hand a squeeze. I gulp, my eyes fixed on the stadium doors before me. The weight of the recent events hangs heavy in the air, casting a shadow of uncertainty over our next move.

“He might have a heart attack,” I mumble, for some reason unable to move my feet off the ground.

Marcus sighs. “You have good reason to think so,” he teases. “But, right now, we need to focus on facing the team together.”

I nod, grateful for his support. “You're right. I just can't shake this feeling of dread over how they'll react.”

Marcus squeezes my hand gently. “We'll handle it together, Sarah. Whatever they throw at us, we'll figure it out.”

His words fill me with a sense of determination, and I draw strength from the unwavering support in his eyes. With Marcus by my side, I feel ready to confront whatever challenges lie ahead, both inside the stadium and beyond. Together, we'll weather the storm, no matter what it brings.

Marcus and I step into the practice area, and the atmosphere instantly shifts. The teammates who were previously milling around all stop what they're doing, their curious gazes fixed on us. Jayden is the first to break the silence.

“Well, well, look who decided to show up together,” he says, a smile and a mischievous twinkle in his eye. I raise an eyebrow, surprised by his seemingly nonchalant and good-natured response.

Could it be…that they would accept us?

The others exchange knowing glances, and I can feel the tension mounting in the air. Marcus doesn't miss a beat. “Yeah, we figured it was time to set the record straight,” he replies, his tone firm and resolute.

I glance around nervously, bracing myself for whatever reactions come our way. As Marcus squeezes my hand reassuringly, I feel a sense of unity and determination.

“Listen up, everyone,” he begins, his words carrying weight in the silent room. “I know there's been a lot of speculation going around lately, but I want to tell you all the truth.”

He pauses for a moment, his gaze sweeping over the faces of his teammates before settling on mine, a reassuring smile playing at the corners of his lips.

“Sarah and me, we're together," he continues, his tone unwavering. “Yeah, maybe it's unexpected and maybe it seems wrong and totally crazy. But I am crazy about her. In fact, she's become the most important person in my life! That isn’t going to change. I hope as a team we can stand together and be supportive of her, just like we always have been.”

My eyes widen at the sudden declaration. Most important person in my life? Suddenly, my heart is beating faster than before, which I did not know was possible.

Marcus continues, “We're not going to let anyone else dictate how we feel.”

His words hang in the air, the gravity of the moment sinking in as the other players take in his declaration. Instead of the ridicule or judgment I feared, I see nods of understanding and even a few supportive smiles.
