CHAPTER FIFTEEN

“What do you think?” Luke asked Cam and Eric. The two men were seated across from him in the quiet cafeteria. The breakfast crowd was gone, lunch not yet in full swing. They sipped their coffee, and Cam shoved his hand through his hair, causing his teammates to grin again. He stopped midway, realizing what he was doing.

“Fuck it, I can’t help it. It’s obvious the old man gave me his DNA,” smirked Cam. “I’m not sure we should do anything other than be ready to pick them up if they get into trouble. I asked Adele to look into Kahn and the legends surrounding his tomb. The only thing she can find is something about gold and jewels, nothing about a weapon.”

“I fucking hate to think of what they might find out there,” said Luke. The door opened, and Ian, Marc, and Parker came toward them. The look on their faces said this was not going to be a happy conversation.

“What now?” asked Eric.

“The boys in the tech room heard some chatter about an archaeological dig and thought maybe our team had been found out. Except it wasn’t our team. The buzz is that Rock Garvin and his team think they know where the lost tomb of Genghis Kahn is located.”

“Oh fuck, no,” said Cam, shaking his head.

“Do we have any idea where they’re headed?” asked Luke.

“Somewhere in Mongolia. That’s all we know. The chat room said that their location would be kept secret, but that Rock and his team had solid evidence of where the tomb was located,” said Parker. “Now, the good news is we got hold of the documents found in the hotel room where Lora and Mike were found.”

Marc took the papers and spread them on the table.

“If you look here, they created a number of entries in a journal citing that they had solid evidence of the tomb being found near Ulaangom on the western side of Mongolia near Russia. Legend has it that Kahn was in love with a princess of the region and wanted her for himself. He visited many times, but her father would not give the girl to him.”

“Smart man,” mumbled Luke.

“Maybe. The entries here say that Kahn got tired of waiting and took sixty thousand troops to take the tribe. The princess, on their wedding night, had a small knife on her and killed Kahn.”

“That goes against everything that May told us,” said Eric, frowning.

“It does, but there’s always been a story out there about this. I found a book in Mama Irene’s library about the history of the Mongols, and it was suspected that he’d been killed by a princess who didn’t want to be his wife. Most historians refused to believe that, thinking that Kahn was too smart to be killed by a woman. Now, we all know that we have some damn smart women here who are more than capable of killing our asses, so it doesn’t seem far-fetched to me.”

“Okay,” said Cam, standing and pacing around the table.
