Joe made his way across the town square toward the clinic. He hadn’t heard anything about Jenny and he hoped that no news was really good news.

Not long before Jenny was literally ready to burst. They were getting Caesar and Chaka, hoping that some solution could be had that didn’t involve using a shop vac.

When Joe arrived at the clinic he saw the jeep with the broken driver’s seat parked out front. He knew Elliott had requisitioned it to teach Chaka to drive, so they were there.

Again, no bad news.

Before stepping into the clinic, Joe pulled out his phone. He took a second, then proceeded to dial Frank. He knew Frank was out of range, but he had to give it a shot.

It rang once and went straight to voice mail.

“Frank, just checking in on you. I was uh … hoping to reach you. Don’t ask me why. No reason. Be careful. Call when you can. Okay? Love you.” Joe hung up, put his phone in his pocket and walked up the steps.

As he reached for the door, it opened and Henry stepped out carrying the shop vac.

“Hey, Joe.”

“You’re still here?” Joe asked.

“I stayed in case they needed me.” Henry held up the vac.

“And?”

“Oh, they did.”

“Christ.”

“But not the way you think. It just got kind of messy when things started to let loose.”

“Oh, boy, is she okay though.”

“Yes, and awake now,” Henry replied.

“Good. Good. How’s Chaka doing?”

“Well, he was supposed to learn to drive with Elliott today, but Jenny woke so the ritual is he had to go hunting.”

“Hunting?” Joe asked.

“Yeah, it’s like when you kill an animal …”

“Christ, Henry, I know what hunting is. I just can’t believe he went hunting.”

“He says he needs fresh meat.”

“For the baby.”

“Oh, no Joe, Caesar is just an infant. For Jenny, and he said while he’s out he was going to get some for the killer babies.”

“Where did he go? Just beyond the fence.”

“I don’t know. They took a jeep so maybe farther,” Henry said.

“So Elliott took him?” Joe questioned.

“No, Dan did.”

“Dan from Security. Dan who has a head injury and thinks he’s Florence Henderson?”

“Yes.” Henry nodded. “Flo … that’s what he wants to be called, says he she knows a good spot.”

“Christ. Unreal. Alright that’s probably another two missing.”

“Who else is missing, Joe?”

Joe waved out his hand. “Just I mean … Frank and Hal are out there.”

“Ah.” Henry nodded. “Before I forget, Joe, just so you know, I had to empty the shop vac twice.”

“Well, thank you Henry for doing something that would have usually made you gag.” Joe grabbed the door.

“You okay, Joe?”

“Yeah, I am. Thanks for asking.” Joe walked inside. No sooner did he take a few steps into the main hall, he saw Lars.

“Joe, just the man I was looking for,” Lars said.

“If you’re going to say we have a problem, I wish you wouldn’t.”

“Well, it’s a slight problem,” Lars said.

“Slight problem, I can handle. What’s up?”

“What happened to my wife’s flowers?” Lars asked.

“I’m sorry?”

“You gentlemen used the Wellness Center, I put flowers in there for her today and they’re gone.
