Challenges

This section presents a list of challenges suggestive of those likely to be encountered by educational institutions as they create or participate in study abroad programs in Asia. It should be noted that many institutions have already responded to these challenges and that their responses provide ready models for others to turn to for guidance.

If the above arguments, or other similar ones, are persuasive, then providing opportunities for liberal arts students to encounter and learn to perform within very different cultures and languages should be seen as a curricular goal of the liberal arts college. From this follow several considerations.
