Chapter Four
Standing in the cold, waiting for Brent to pay the driver, Amy realized the temperature was dropping. If the weatherman was right snow could start falling overnight.
Brent took her hand and led her through the wide front doors. Unfortunately, they lacked privacy on the elevator ride up. An elderly couple with a small dog stood on the opposite side. Occasionally the dog barked at them and the lady scolded it.
Amy smiled at Brent when he flicked his thumb over her knuckles. She could sense his tension. Her own need increased with each moment, the lack of privacy vexing. She wanted to trace the shell of his ear with her tongue, to kiss her way down his neck and rip off his shirt, but with the older couple smiling politely at them Amy suppressed her impulses.
The way he looked at her, as though he wanted her naked as fast as possible, made her weak in the knees. In the cab, his hand had coasted north on her thigh until she had to stop him. It was either that or let him discover just how aroused she was. And that was the last thing she wanted to happen in the back of a cab.
When the little yappy dog broke into another chorus of I Think I’m A Doberman, with his owner’s shushing creating the harmony, Brent used the sudden spike in volume to whisper to her. His cheek brushed against hers. “First the cab ride. Now this.”
She angled her body toward him. “I hope you can make it worth the wait.”
She heard his quickly drawn breath as her teeth grazed his earlobe. His hand slid around her waist, squeezing her hip through her jacket. “I promise not to disappoint.”
The elderly couple exited on their floor, following them all the way down the hallway. Brent groaned. “I can’t catch a break tonight.”
Giggling, Amy watched him dig his keys from his pocket and unlock the door.
Once inside she wasn’t sure what to do. Part of her wanted to throw him up against the nearest wall and smother him with her lips, but part of her wanted to wait and see what he had in mind.
He tossed his keys into a bowl on a table in the entranceway, then flicked on the light, before closing the door behind her. “So this is where Josh and I live.”
“Josh lives here, too?”
“Yeah. Rather than renting we purchased a condo.”
“Neat.” She nodded.
His eyes sparkled. “Yeah, it’s just fascinating.”
She swatted at him. “Don’t tease.”
He brushed his fingers against her chin. “But that’s exactly what I plan to do.” For a heartbeat they stared at one another, before he said, “Would you like to get those shoes off?”
Expecting him to follow that question with a corny joke about other things she could take off, Amy nodded. “Yes. I hadn’t noticed how badly my feet were aching until we got into the cab.”
Brent toed his shoes off before sitting on the small bench. “Here.” He patted his thigh. “Let me help.
