6.

By the time Alyssa arrived back at home, the day’s walking had warn her out. She had picked up dinner on the way home and sat at her small kitchen table to eat. His lights were still off, so he probably hadn’t come back from his morning outing yet. Finishing her dinner, Alyssa dropped her take-out containers into the garbage then decided a hot shower would do wonders for her sore feet.

Dusk was beginning to hang it’s nightly shadows between the buildings when Alyssa had finished with her shower. She wrapped her hair in a towel, then wrapped a second one around her still dripping body before grabbing her moisturizer and left the steamy bathroom in favour of the cooler living room. She sat on her sofa, in the spot that had fast become her usual now. The one directly in front of her patio doors. The one with the view right through to His patio doors.

She had left only one of the table lamps on before her shower, and in the dusk of the evening, her living room/kitchen sat only in the dim light. Alyssa took a quick look to his apartment. These looks had long ago become involuntary. She just couldn’t help herself anymore. Her eyes found him through his kitchen window. She saw him in profile. From his position, she assumed he was at his sink, probably washing up the days dishes. Alyssa unwrapped her hair, leaned forward and flipped it down over her face to start towel drying it. Eventually tilting her head to the side, she opened her eyes and instantly froze. There he was, standing in his open balcony doors, watching her. He had left his kitchen overhead florescence lights on and she could see him clearly. He was wearing jeans with a plain cream coloured shirt unbuttoned and fluttering in the night breeze. And he was smiling. When he saw that she was looking, he waved to her.

Alyssa slowly sat up. She pushed her wet hair from her face letting him see the smile that she couldn't even begin to stifle. She shyly waved back. The breeze picked up for a moment, blowing his shirt open wider as she watched him. After a few moments of the two of them just looking at each other, Alyssa began to feel a bit awkward. She raised her eyebrows and shrugged her shoulders at him, wondering what his next move was going to be. He smiled big and made a ‘flashing’ gesture to her. Alyssa burst out laughing. In hindsight, it wasn’t such a surprise. She shook her head no and pointed at him. She watched him take a step backwards, further into the light of his apartment, and probably further out of sight for anyone else eyes. He pulled his shirt closed and made and exaggerated look around at the apartments around her that had a view of his. When he was satisfied that no-one was watching, he flung his shirt wide and thrust his chest out for her to see.
