Chapter Sixteen

Oskar

Oskar had been about to set the record straight after what happened in Bahrain when Oskar’s best friend strode in. Emil bore his trademark grin and was freshly showered Oskar assumed from the wetness of his friend’s hair. Emil’s eyes roamed over Quinn, jealously punching Oskar in the gut, and it was only quenched when he realized Quinn had barely even glanced in Emil’s direction.

Emil turned to Oskar, his dark eyes filled with mischief as he held out his arms. “Oskar, you handsome devil. Come give me a hug.”

Oskar rolled his eyes as he did as asked, embracing his oldest friend and congratulating him in Danish on the team’s win. Emil stepped back, patting his cheek like he was a child. Then Emil stepped back, dropping his hand, and turned to Quinn.

Used to seeing Emil charm women left and right, it was the first time that Oskar had felt that he wouldn’t be able to stomach watching if Quinn showed even the slightest bit of interest in his friend. It wasn’t a pleasant feeling.

“Ah, this must be the woman the entire sports world is talking about.” Emil flashed one of his best smiles, taking Quinn’s hand and lifting her knuckles to his lips. “Though Oskar failed to tell me just how beautiful you are.”

To Oskar’s relief, Quinn rolled her eyes. “I’m pretty sure that line works on most women but it just irritates me.”

Emil let loose a bark of laughter, glancing over his shoulder to say in Danish. “I like this one, Oskar. She has fire and attitude. Much better than those academics you tried to date.”

Oskar was starting to think the same, but instead of replying, Oskar clapped Emil on the back. “It’s rude to speak in a language your guest does not understand. English please, bro.”

Emil was still grinning as Oskar pulled out a chair and motioned for Quinn to sit as Emil called for drinks and food to be brought in. The evening passed quickly, with lots of laughter and reminiscing, and with Quinn glancing at him every so often as if the stories Emil was sharing made her look at him differently.

At around one in the morning, Quinn yawned, slapping a hand over her mouth, her cheeks heating as Emil laughed. “We have kept you up with our constant chatter.”

Quinn waved in apology. “I’m sorry. I’m used to my racer routine.”

Both men rose with Quinn, who dismissed Oskar’s offer to walk her to her room, telling Emil that she might even like him if he hadn’t of caused the Ireland camp a loss at the night’s game. Quinn offered him a small smile before she left them alone, and Oskar was hot with the urge to follow after her.

“You like her.”

Oskar retook his seat and regarded Emil. “Yes.”

That was all Oskar managed to say as Emil ordered more drinks and then after sipping from his bottle, Emil leaned back in his chair and folded his arms across his chest.
