Declan

K eep your eyes closed.”

I’ve been worried about this date since the day I asked her. Brinley kept trying to give me ideas, but I knew immediately where I wanted to take her… what I wanted to do together. The fear was never trying to figure that out; it was her hating it.

“Declan,” her hands are covering mine, which are covering her eyes, “even if I opened my eyes, I still don’t think I’d be able to see anything.”

“Good.”

“Just don’t run me into any walls.”

“No promises.”

I take a deep breath and walk backward through double doors and down a hallway. The second we get there, I take my hands off her eyes, but they remain closed like she’s waiting for me to give her permission to open them.

I let out a nervous breath. “Open them.”

She does, and the bright warm smile on her face fades as she takes in the room.

Maybe this was a bad idea.

“Declan…”

“Sorry, I just, I thought, but we can… um, I mean, we can go to dinner up the street or something if you would—”

“How did you?”

Her eyes continue to wander around the room, a variety of paintings hanging on the wall. And then, her eyes finally land on two easels with empty canvases.

“This is incredible.”

“I know you said you haven’t painted in a while, but when you were talking about it, I could just tell you loved doing it,” I say. “I know your supplies are all in a random box somewhere, but—”

“You remembered?” She laughs. “I just, I can’t believe you remembered. I mean, I know you remembered I used to paint because Brin brought it up one time, but—”

“I just wanted to do something special.” I take a step toward her and grab her face with my hands. “You deserve something special.”

“Thank you,” she whispers, pressing her lips against mine. “It’s perfect.”

“So are you.”

She rolls her eyes before pushing me off her and removing her jacket.

She looks sexy as hell.

“Is it just us?” She turns to look back at me and crosses her arms when she notices me staring.

“Just us,” I reply.

“You’re playing a risky game, Sanderson. I mean, a thoughtful gesture, an empty room….”

“Well, you’re wearing the jeans you wore on Halloween, so I don’t know if I’d say I’m playing this game alone.”

Her eyebrow pops up in a question.

“I’ll never forget the way your ass looks in those jeans. It’s ingrained in my mind.”

“Well,” she pulls the apron off the back of one of the chairs, “are you just gonna stand there, or are you gonna paint with me?”

“I don’t know; I’m enjoying the view.”

“Suit yourself.”

She throws the apron over her neck and then ties it around her waist. She sits in front of one of the canvases and grabs one of the larger brushes from the cup.

“What are you going to paint?” I ask, wrapping my hands low around her waist. She looks up at me and smiles.

“Can I paint you?”

“You just want to see me naked.” I kiss her. “I never thought I’d be a nude model.
