Chapter Ten
Miriam
He returns with a body and places it on a table as he runs a scan on it. I nearly collapsed from the shock of seeing him come in covered in green blood. I wanted to ask him why he didn't take one prisoner, but I suppose that he knew what he was doing so that was just a foolish thought on my part.
His hands tense around the metal table as his eyes scour over the corpse in front of him. The man was shot through the chest by what seemed to be a laser blaster. Their armor and their tech were unlike anything I've ever seen before ...well with exception to Jino that is.
"What the hell are they? What do they want?" I asked him and he shrugged as he stares at the computer as it flashed these strange symbols on the screen near the workbench. An arm was currently laying on the table and a series of lasers were darting over it. What was he trying to do? Was he scanning the tech? The biology of it? I thought he already knew this species.
"Just as I thought, genetic anomalies. Says here that part of their DNA is specified using gene-editing technology, there was an insertion at various parts, says it codes for some specific muscular proteins that probably result in increased strength and endurance." he muttered while gazing at the screen.
"So what does that mean?" I asked him and he hung his head in what seems to be dread.
He glances back up to me before saying it, "They're using your friends for experiments, likely using their DNA for...his own purposes." he started and I quivered in shock, no way that was true! I refused to believe it!
What the hell would he want with us anyway? Was he going to make some sort of soldier from our bodies? Some kind of monster? This man sounded like one of those old mad scientists in a movie!
I ran outside and vomited onto the sands as he ripped the arm from his table and chucked the rest of the body a fair distance away from the ship before sitting there beside me as I sat on the ramp. My head was in my hands and I was at a loss once again.
"You know I understand your frustration. To be helpless. I lost my parents by a mysterious force as well, they sent me away before I could even do anything." he started and it woke me from my little saddened stupor.
I glanced over at him and he apparently took it as a signal to continue as he kept on speaking soon after.
"I was a boy, I don't know how long it was in your years, but in my years I was about 12 when it happened. The word seemed to meld into this strange sort of darkness, this overwhelmingly bitter world had taken my entire race away from me...but the only thing that you can do is accept that sometimes you can't really do anything about it.
