Professional Learning

Hybrid or virtual schools should continue professional learning opportunities for the faculty. The initiatives created collaboratively by you and teachers can be adjusted and developed through video platforms and allowing conversation about shared documents. Because professional learning is more successful when it’s relevant to teachers’ needs, during the pandemic many schools shifted professional learning to an increased focus on the technology needed for virtual learning. Be flexible as you work with the teachers to provide additional relevant experiences.

Some schools have let go of professional learning during the pandemic. I don’t recommend dropping coordinated learning for teachers to meet all students’ needs, but you should recognize the need for fewer focus areas to lighten the load for teachers. Virtual and hybrid teaching is hard work; teachers are taxed and tired. Discover teachers’ needs, start small, and use the technology available to you to create opportunities to collaborate, share, and grow.
