Mary Rucinsky is the hospital administrator for the Southeast Ohio Women’s Hospital (SOWH) located in Damascus, Ohio. Part of her responsibility is ensuring that the hospital operates as efficiently as possible while maintaining the highest level of patient care. Based on some best practices shared at a recent hospital administrator conference, Mary decided that her hospital should possibly consider installing an automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) to improve its nurses’ access to the most commonly prescribed medications in its postpartum recovery unit while reducing errors in administering the medication to patients. Several salespeople from companies producing ADCs have touted their potential cost savings in meetings with Mary, but she wants to conduct her own analysis to see how much her facility can realistically be expected to benefit from investing in this new piece of equipment.
