It was the end of August when Carmen finally found out about me and Blake.

“I can’t believe you’ve kept this from me for months!” she screeches in her bedroom. Her parents aren’t home, so we can be as loud and open about our respective sex lives as we want.

“Sorry, I just didn’t know how to bring it up.”

She guffaws at me.

“How about, ‘Hey Carmen, I’m sleeping with my dad’s friend, wanna hear about it?’ Honestly, Morgan. How could you not tell me?”

I bite my lip. How do I explain this? On the one hand, what Blake and I feel is too precious to share. It’s burning me up from the inside out, making me tingle and writhe deliciously. Plus, we’ve settled into a groove. I see him all the time now and no one suspects a thing. Of course, people know that we’re spending time together, but there are plausible reasons why. Daddy thinks it’s because I want to become an entrepreneur of some sort, and Blake’s showing me the ins and outs of the business. After all, Blake has a B.S. in Civil Engineering, and his construction firm employs plenty of engineers, so it’s kind of believable. Ha. If that were true, then I wouldn’t be getting a C in calculus. But Daddy doesn’t suspect a thing, and that’s what matters to me.

“I said sorry, what else can I do?” I say with a sheepish smile. “It just is what it is.” Carmen harrumphs, crossing her arms across her chest.

“You can give me details, that’s what.”

So I do.

I recount everything, starting with the pizza incident where Blake burst in on me and Nicky. Come to think of it, I haven’t heard from Nicky in a long time. I wonder what he’s up to? I’m interrupted by my friend’s ecstatic shrieks.

“Pizza? Naked buttocks? Are you kidding?” Carmen screeches. “Holy cow, no wonder he broke up with you with a note. Oh wait, does Nicky know about you and Blake?” she breathes.

I shake my head.

“No, Blake ran him off, and then everything steamy happened afterwards.”

Carmen goggles at me.

“But how did you get Blake to do what he did? You’re such a Jezebel, and I had no idea,” she says admiringly.

I take another deep breath.

“I told him I needed him to teach me about being a woman.”

Carmen stares her mouth agape.

“What? What kind of bullshit excuse is that? I can teach you about being a woman. Okay, maybe not in exactly the same fashion that he can, but still. That’s like out of the movies, my friend.”

I nod.

“But it worked. We’ve been seeing each other for a while now.”

Carmen nods but then shakes her head slowly.

“You sly dog, leading a double life like that. You even went alone to prom. I remember thinking I needed to be extra nice to you and let my boyfriend dance with you a couple times because you had no one. But now, I’m the one who’s been had!” she cackles gleefully.

I nod with a smile on my face.
