Chapter 23- The Smoke Monster

"Who the fuck is she?" Celestia asked, her voice filled with surprise as she swung open the door. To my astonishment, she stood before me in an elegant, flowing pale blue silk dress that draped loosely over her large stomach. Her white hair cascaded down to her shoulders with loose braids.

"Let us in, it's urgent," Caspian interjected, disregarding her question and entering Celestia's chambers. He handed her the letter.

Celestia read the contents of the letter and her composure remained surprisingly calm. "Dead in battle? I find that hard to believe. And who is Elaria?"

“Your daughter,” I replied, wondering why Caspian mentioned her in the letter. He probably assumed I was sent back to when she was grieving heavily. None of us could have predicted I would find her heavily pregnant still.

"And she dies as well?" I could see the fear in her eyes.

I nodded, my heart heavy with the weight of the truth. "Before I met you, you mentioned that she never lived." Celestia's hand instinctively rested upon her swollen belly, her face betraying a hidden panic despite her outward serenity. If I could spare her from the loss of a child, I would.

"You must come back with me. The king needs you. I need you. We might even find a way to save Elaria," I implored, urgency lacing my words. I didn't want Caspian waiting on me for too long.

She glared at me, her eyes burning with uncertainty. "I don't even know you. I can't trust you.”

"No, but you did. And you will once more," I responded. I realized that our friendship would not go back to normal. This wasn't the girl I bonded with when I first arrived. No, this girl didn't trust me at all. And it was clear that she didn't like me either.

"And if I refuse to accompany you?" Celestia questioned matter-of-factly. She was acting so bratty, I wasn't used to it. It must have been the pregnancy hormones. Was it okay to slap sense into a pregnant woman?

"Then your child will undoubtedly die. And your brother will be consumed by inconsolable grief," I replied, the truth stinging my tongue. I had to save her. And now I knew I could try and save her daughter as well.

"Cel, you have to go with her. We have spent our entire lives together, and if there exists a future version of me without you, she is not lying. He will descend into madness," Caspian pleaded, his voice filled with desperation. At least one of them understood the gravity of the situation.

Reluctantly, Celestia lowered herself onto the bed, contemplating our words. "Fine. But only to save my child. If she dies, I will hold you responsible and you will die too," she declared, her gaze unwaveringly fixed on me.

"Sounds good!" Caspian chimed in. His enthusiasm had me sending daggers at him with my eyes.

"Sounds good?! No! It fucking does not sound good!" I protested, but they paid me no attention, already setting a plan in motion without me.
