Chapter Nine

Cade

HE WRAPPED his fingers around his coffee cup. It was almost ten in the morning, so Glitter was empty save for himself and Cole. The staff wouldn’t begin to arrive until after five and Cade owned the place through a shell company, making it the ideal place for them to meet with Neil.

“Thank you for letting me come with you,” Cole said.

Cade met Cole’s eyes across the table.

“Baby, it’s you and me now. We’re in this together. Through the good and the bad, I suppose,” Cade said.

Cole nodded, an expression flittering across his face Cade couldn’t quite read. Cole got up and moved so he could slide into the booth next to Cade. Cole laid a hand on Cade’s thigh and just knowing Cole was with him made everything so much easier.

“All the way, baby,” Cole said.

A smile bloomed on Cade’s face. “All the way.”

That was a promise he meant to keep.

It was only two minutes later when he knew Neil had arrived. He’d left the back door locked because he knew Neil could get in without needing the passcode. Walking through the front door simply wasn’t something Neil did. If Neil had a place of his own, he doubted he used the main entrance there either.

“Neil.”

Neil sat down opposite them and laid his arms on the table. His face was devoid of any emotion as always.

“Richard?” Cade asked.

“I have a team hunting him down, and they’ll make sure he knows I have the flash drive now. We’re rounding up his old associates to make it harder for him to hide and regroup. He’ll be a busy man for a while, so your family should be safe, but we’ll keep the men on them for now. We’ve frozen all accounts he could have access to, and unless he’s got a lot of money stashed around the country, he won’t be able to afford the men it would take to go after you or your family.”

Cade didn’t doubt Richard would find a way to dig up some money if that was what he wanted. But he also knew exactly what Richard did want, and it was currently in the inner pocket of his jacket.

He took in the stoic man in front of him and told himself he needed to trust him. Even though he knew Neil’s weakness, possibly his only one, they both knew he could never use it against him. He would never use Neil’s feelings for Marco against him. He’d been on the other end of that scenario before. He could never do it, which was why they’d come up with a contingency plan.

He put a hand over the one Cole had on his leg, needing to feel Cole’s skin against his own. He reached into his pocket to pull out the flash drive. He put it on the table, and with a finger, he pushed it toward Neil.

“You should’ve given me this in Paris,” Neil said and pocketed the flash drive. “All of this might have been avoided.
