CHAPTER 11

Garanor

I was never good at losing. I wasn’t taught how to. I was used to winning, and being the best at everything. But with Elenia, I just kept losing.

My plan failed. Instead of giving in to his lust and fucking that fairy, which was what Xanor did until recently, he ditched her. Either the girl wasn’t interesting enough, or he really did fall in love with Elenia. The thought of my brother’s feelings tied my insides in knots. That monster fell in love! And, damn it, he just had to fall in love with the woman I needed more than life! As corny as it sounded, it was apparently true. I needed Elenia. I was like a drug addict who was completely hooked on her.

I couldn’t stop thinking about her. I couldn’t get her out of my head. Recently, I even started dreaming about her, even though I never dreamed at all!

Elenia said that I was suffocating her, that because of me she couldn’t breathe. But I was the one who couldn’t breathe because of her! Slowly but surely, I was dying without her.

“Garanor, why did Lita react to you like that?”

With difficulty, I returned to reality, to Felicia, to the hall full of guests. Elenia had been with my brother all evening. She let him hug her, kiss her, and she acted as if she was crazy about her fiancé. Slowly but surely, she was the one driving me crazy, reminding me how I dreamed of punching Xanor and how I wanted to drag her away from here. To hide her where he couldn’t find her.

It was safe to say I was turning into a maniac.

“Garanor...”

I had to remind myself again that I had a fiancée. Who was clearly mad at me. She was jealous, and lately, our relationship was getting rockier. I couldn’t blame her; she had every reason to be jealous and offended. I was even ready to stop cursing Sibyl for filling her mind with poisonous thoughts every day, and admit that it was all my fault.

I allowed myself to become weak. I fell in love with the person with whom I really didn’t need to.

The realization of what I didn’t dare to admit even to myself for a long time was deafening. I was scared, really scared of this sudden realization. But I finally got a grip, returned to reality, and finally answered.

“I have no idea what happened. I don’t understand children.”

“But this behavior of hers...” Felicia pursed her lips in frustration. “The journalists will start writing all sorts of nonsense about us. Again.”

She was right. Tomorrow the news of me “being a dad” would spread throughout Grassor. For some reason, seeing Marisel in my brother’s arms was almost as unpleasant as seeing him hugging Elenia.

Noticing how Xanor’s hand slid from Elenia’s waist to her ass, I mentally swore and I just barely caught Felicia’s words.

“She shouldn’t have brought her baby here.”

I didn’t know why, but now I was getting irritated.

“Lita isn’t bothering anyone here.
