“Thanks,” his guest said and turned away to unpack. Indigo left the

cabin, heading up to the house to start breakfast. He’d found that guests came

to the ranch for many reasons, and while they were here their time was theirs.

Or, Indigo hoped, maybe he was simply tired.

He made the fixings for english muffin breakfast sandwiches. He’d

found he could make the basics and the guys would put them together when

they came in. Some days they were able to eat together, but many times

everyone was on the go to the point that food had to be something they could

grab and take along. Indigo ate his own sandwich and then placed the fixings

on the counter and in the refrigerator, leaving a note on the table before

heading back out to get his chores done.

He loved the ranch in the morning and stopped at the paddock to watch

the horses frolic.

“It’s so quiet,” Marshall said from behind him. Indigo turned and saw

him looking around. “Did your guest arrive?”

“Yeah. He looked like he had a rough night, so he’s resting. If you’re

up to it, you can eat quickly, and then I thought I’d call my aunt.”

“You want to try to find your brother?” Marshall asked softly.

“I’m not sure what I want to do or how I feel about this. Remy has been

gone a long time, and I keep wondering why he never contacted me. But…

then again, maybe he tried and Mom and Dad wouldn’t let him. I don’t

know.” Indigo swallowed hard. Maybe he should simply let sleeping dogs lie.

But he’d wondered why Remy had left and if he was okay for so long that

maybe… just maybe it was time to find out the truth. He chewed on one of

his fingernails for a second before forcing his hand away from his mouth. He

hated feeling nervous, and this idea made him feel jittery as hell.

“I hope you won’t be angry, but I tried Googling your brother a few

days ago. I didn’t come up with anything concrete. I think you said your aunt

might have hinted that he changed his name, which would make sense. If we

knew what he changed it to, we might have some luck, but without that piece

of information, I couldn’t come up with anything.” Marshall took a deep

breath. “I was curious and hoped I could find something about him for you.”

“I’m not mad, just… conflicted.”

Marshall lightly touched his arm. “Isn’t it better to try to find out what

happened? At least then you’ll know. Right now it’s a mystery.” Marshall

smiled. “Maybe it’s just me, but I love a good mystery.”

“I should have known. I saw the Agatha Christie book on your

nightstand.” Indigo smiled in an attempt to cover up his nerves. “I think
