Chapter Fifteen

This is going to be a long night.

Dallas felt lost and alone, pacing from the dining room, to the living room to gaze through the window of Luna’s condo. He was totally on board with the plan to ensure Alicia’s safety but wished it hadn’t meant separating them. His face broke out into a smile when his cellphone screen lit up and he read her message.

I love you and miss you so much. I want this nightmare to be over.

“Me too,” he responded and pulled up a picture of the latest People’s Magazine cover with Dallas smiling for the camera. The paparazzi had snapped the perfect shot this time. But it wasn’t the one the man intended. Thanks to Alicia’s quick movements, the camera did not capture a full-on image of her. He thought of her and the amazing person she was, loving, generous, and compassionate and wanted to ensure her privacy as much as possible.

Dallas quickly switched to Face Time, dialed and Alicia quickly connected. His heart ached as he noticed combined with the bright smile were mist of tears on her lashes.

“How are you, baby?” he asked softly, kissing her face through the screen.

He saw her pout and kissed back. “I’m hanging in there, my love,” she said, he saw a tear rolled down one cheek as the connection ended. He stared at the blank screen for a while, thinking of her and reminding himself how lucky and blessed he was for having her in his life.

One of their most recent discussions popped to mind. They had been discussing charitable donations and he mentioned that one of his former teammates was in need of help.

“Michael Green?” She had exclaimed when he mentioned the name.

He had explained that Michael needed assistance for drug rehab and that it would be a good idea to include him as one of their charitable donations. “I told him I would have to discuss it with you.” She was his unofficial financial advisor and all major expenses had to pass her sniffing test. She had listened intently as he laid out the details of his talk with Michael.

Alicia recalled some of the sad news reports about Michael—him being arrested for drug possession and beaten and robbed on the streets and expressed sympathy for him.

“Yes, like a lot of other professional athletes, he had made a lot of money, but it left him like water through a basket.” Dallas responded.

At the end of the conversation, she replied, “Let’s make it happen, and we will pray for him too. Sometimes a higher power is needed along with that cash.”

He pulled her in his arms, tilted her chin, and his lips and tongue slowly massaged across her lips. Alicia responded in kind, and as their tongues danced, the rhythm accelerated, and heat spread throughout their bodies. His hands strolled across her face, to her neck down her shoulders and back. He lifted her dress and cupped her buttocks, only to discover that it was bare. Message sent and received, and his animal side took over.
