I run into you every so often

in the form of bitter memories,

or of photos I forgot to delete.

I had never really known hate,

until you introduced us both,

but I can tell you with sincerity

that we are now terrific friends,

and every time I do run into you,

like I did tonight,

she has the good sense

to remind me again why

you deserve every misfortune

that you’ll ever meet in this life,

or the one hereafter.

It’s an inside joke.

You wouldn’t understand.
