TECHNIQUE 24

If you have both of your hands up to protect your face, many times your opponent will grab one or both of your wrists to attempt to control your movement. Also, he may try to push you backward off-balance. If you know this is a typical response of an opponent, you can use this to your advantage.

Figure 24-1: Your opponent has grabbed both of your wrists, and your hands are up to protect your face.

Figure 24-2: As is characteristic of this type of grip, your opponent will have his thumbs together. By turning your body in a clockwise fashion, begin to place your body at a 45-degree angle to your opponent. This will keep you from facing his force head on. Grab his right hand with your right hand— your thumb should be between his thumb and forefinger. Once you have established your grip, you can chamber your left hand toward your right ear. This will allow you to apply pressure on his wrist with your forearm.

Figure 24-3: Once his grip has been broken, you can release your left wrist and rotate his right hand to the right side of your body.

Figure 24-4: You can then strike the side of his neck or head, or the back of his neck, with a hammer fist strike of your left hand.
