A Worthy Plan?

It was shocking how much unquestionable authority I had. Within minutes, a selected handful of staff came to room 322. The three people unit had a militaristic vibe as they marched down Warcaster Hall. Not a single word was exchanged as they worked. One placed the door and screwed it in. Another collected the sharp pieces of wood and cracked them into tiny, nonthreatening chunks. The last one slid coupons under the nearby doors. I knew it wasn’t proper to stare, but I couldn’t look away. It had pleased me to see every possible mishap had a crew to take care of it. But, I expected to receive some sort of questioning glance.

Were exploding doors a common occurrence in 7 Moons?

“Is that all, Miss Savio?” Patricia, the emergency carpenter, asked.

I looked at the door. The work was impeccable. It would be hard to believe anything took place in Warcaster Hall mere moments before.

“Oh wow! It looks great!” I exclaimed. “That’s all for now. The inside is in dire need, but let’s take care of that another time.”

“As you wish, Miss Savio,” Patricia replied.

As the unit turned away, a necessary prevention came to mind.

“Oh, and will you do me a favor please?” I called after them. “Don’t mention this to a single soul.”

The unit collectively nodded. I couldn’t help but wonder what went through their minds. Nobody openly questioned my story about Liam Lanst and the destruction. I had already prepared a perfect story to satisfy any questioning thought. It was a simple tale, really. Mr. Lanst could not contain his drinks and had a bit of a rampage in his room. For which he decided to apologize and leave. I found it to be quite convincing.

Now that the door was put together, I turned my attention to Room 321. I took in a subtle deep breath. Such a smooth progress of action was not awaiting me. Stealing a glance at the time, I had about 2 and half hours before breakfast began.

Miss Caine had retreated into her room before the unit arrived. Although, the use of the word “retreated” wasn’t entirely proper. Without much effort, I could feel her icy presence lingering behind the door. Was she looking through the door’s subtle peephole? Most likely. I was tempted to stick my tongue out, but given the circumstances, I withheld my antics.

I lightly knocked on the cool door. Without waiting a second, the door swung open. She had somehow managed to clean her appearance in such little time. Her hair no longer looked like a bird’s nest. Her entire attire had changed from wrecked to a pretty deep blue dress. The soot that stained her hands was gone. Even her staff seemed to have had a polish.

“Alright, that’s all taken care of,” I began. “Let’s take the passages up to the Restricted Area.”

Two birds with one stone. I could inspect if any other entrances were tampered with.

“I was just about to suggest that.” Miss Caine walked past and gestured me to follow her.
