Shortly after her passing, in 2002 the Fayga Ostrower Institute was founded in Rio de Janeiro. This is a repository of her work, an educational institution and a venue to show her art and her writing. Some of her art is displayed and all of her documents are kept, cataloged and documented to provide for creative, fine art and interdisciplinary study.

Uruguay

“Better to lose a minute in your life than your life in a minute”

Uruguay Is South America’s second smallest country; it became independent from Brazil two centuries ago. Uruguayan people are constituted by the large-scale of European immigration that occurred throughout the century, and a small minority of people of African descent. Thus, Uruguay became a melting-pot for various cultures with a rich and vibrant history of art. Montevideo is home to over half of Uruguay’s population; it is where the country’s most prominent museums and galleries are located.

The National Museum of Visual Arts was opened in 1911. It hosts some of the country’s best works, and most celebrated artists, including Pedro Figari, who helped bring the Post-Impressionism movement to the country. La Mano (The Hand) is a massive sculpture in the sand; it was done in 1982 by Chilean artist Mario Irarrázabal. This sculpture depicts five human fingers partially emerging from sand and is located at Brava Beach in Punta del Este. Nearby is the impressive Casapueblo (House-village)where Carlos Páez Vilaró worked and resided.
