In the equestrian field is the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. In addition to the Epsom Derby and the Kentucky Derby, this is one of the most prestigious international horse races. The race is held every year since 3 October 1920 on the first Sunday in October. It was introduced during a celebration at the end of World War I.

The region is home to numerous sports facilities of national and international standing. The Stade de France (Stadium of France) is located in Saint-Denis, a suburb north of Paris. The football stadium holds 80,000 spectators and was built for the 1998 football World Cup in France. The French football team and the French rugby team play their home games at the Stade de France. If you happen to catch a home game at the stadium, you might get to see the French team take on some of their rivals from across the pond – particularly Arsenal, which is supported by such famous musicians as Jay-Z and Dido. Tough crowd to be up against!
