Day 25

Set Yourself Apart

As usual our transportation didn't take more than a blink and we found ourselves standing on a wide rocky plateau just below the summit of some isolated mountain. I glanced towards the sky and I could see clouds or fog obscuring the peaks above. Below an open desolate wasteland of scrub brush covered the ground and an incessant wind hummed through the rocks whistling a peculiar little tune.

Through the mist, I could see the sun very low on the horizon. So, I judged that by its position, it wasn't more than a couple of hours since we stood on the plains near the banks of the Jordan River.

I strained to search the vista for a landmark that might indicate our location.

"Mount Tabor," Clarion said.

"What?" I asked.

"We are on Mount Tabor. I could tell by your inquisitive gaze, you were wondering where we are now."

Clarion pointed to the left.

"A few miles in that direction you can see Nazareth- the land of our Lord's childhood and the Sea of Galilee is over there." Clarion pointed in the opposite direction.

I felt urgency in Sharon's grasp as she interrupted the conversation by digging her fingers into my arm, and I turned just in time to see several bodies materialize very near where we were standing.

It was Jesus and the disciples. He was smiling slyly, but Peter, James and John Zebadee, Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James Altheus, Jude, and Simon all shared shocked expressions that reminded me of the first time Sharon and I transported onto the dusty road to Emmaus. I knew the feeling. I understood the panic on their faces. Andrew was the first to recover enough to speak, but all he could do was stammer.

"What? Where?"

"Lord!" interrupted James.

"Is this not the place where Moses and Elijah came to You? Is this Tabor?"

Jesus smiled even broader.

"Yes, this is Mount Tabor," He replied.

Peter dropped with his face towards the ground.

"The wind, the lions, and all of nature praise You and obey … My Lord, and my God."

Each of the men followed suit and for a moment I felt incapacitated by guilt. Not once had I felt quite so overwhelmed by Jesus' presence, or the many time shifting miracles of nature I had seen. There were so many things I had taken for granted. I was pretending to be nothing more than a casual observer and the disciples were so awed that all they could do in response was worship.63

Nevertheless, before I could react Jesus interrupted my reflections.

"I will return in a short while. I must be sure that Caiaphas, and Theopolis are well on their way back to Jerusalem. I want to make sure they will not have any trouble."

Then, just as quickly as He appeared, Jesus disappeared.

That's when I looked toward Clarion and realized he was gone as well. Only then did I become conscious that the eleven were staring blankly at Sharon and me.

I realized we were unexpectedly visible.

"Who are you?" James asked.

"I am Charles Person and this is my sister Sharon…"

"This cannot be," demanded Simon.
