As for height, I want the cup to be tall enough that the items are held upright… something past half the height of an average drawing tool should work. Based on another quick measure, I come up with a height of 5”.

The last measurement I need before I start modeling is the wall thickness. I could guess or hold up my calipers to get an idea of how thick this needs to be, or I can measure a real-world item. While I shied away from measuring my existing glass jar for most of the measurements, I think that the thickness of the lip might give me a good idea of how thick the wall of my new pencil cup should be. A quick measure with my calipers lets me know that somewhere around 4 mm should work.
