CHAPTER SIX
More than fourteen billion humans are living on Earth in 2083, 90% of whom live in megacities. The world may be overpopulated due to rapid advancements in life-saving vaccines, medicine, and medical procedures for almost all existing illnesses. They will be effectively cutting death rates in half by 50%. People are dying less, and thatâs good, but we have failed to put into place any sort of international birth control plan. Humans were allowed to reproduce without limits, and the population grew out of control; This could be a reversed scenario, where we stop reproducing for whatever reason. Rather it is voluntary, or something happens, and either the males or females of our species can no longer produce offspring. And then what happens? Do we eventually go extinct? Or perhaps, we hit a level where human-to-human intimacy is a thing of the past, and like all other natural things, we replace sex with a cleaner, more technological option. Have you ever seen Demolition Man? But then we would have to reproduce humans artificially, or we will go extinct.
As of right now, I donât think many people even think about it; Itâs more than sixty years into the future. At times it seems like we may not survive 2020 (The global Covid-19 pandemic killed 600,000+ people and affected millions in 2020). We donât have time to worry about what kind of hell we could be facing in 2083. And who knows, perhaps Covid-19 will be on the eradication list by this time. If not eradicated, most likely a universal vaccine. A universal vaccine for all known viruses. Wouldnât that be nice? We have no way of knowing what the long term future may hold, but we can count on those who innovate to innovate.
As the world moves forward in 2020 and into 2021, we will face many unknown issues from now to 2083, and when we enter a new decade in 2090, we will either have more of the same kind of human chaos that we have had for the past 70 years or some sort of global peace system. I donât see world peace happening.
I do see another world war possibly happening at some point in the next 70 years. No, I donât care to say how I think it could break out. There are just too many ways another worldwide military conflict could erupt. (just watch the news) And somebody could use nuclear weapons to show their dominance. Maybe Iâm wrong. Perhaps we can avoid a global disaster.
Do we humans have what it takes to hold back our violent aggression and get along with each other? Or will we destroy ourselves in one final war? A war so intense no man, child, or woman will survive, and if they do, nuclear fallout will be a deadly problem. Letâs hope world leaders can find common ground on whatever issues that arise and hold back from global annihilation.
A lot of people prefer to avoid the news; it gets scary, real quick.
