PROBLEM

MODIFICATION

My body is flat at the midpoint of my stroke.

To benefit from leverage at this important phase of the stroke, your body should be rotated towards your stroking arm.

My hand, elbow and shoulder line up in the mid-pull, but my arm is pretty straight.

When the hand is far away from the body in the mid-pull it is not as strong. Try to increase the bend in your elbow without sacrificing your alignment.

I don't feel the line from my elbow to my opposite shoulder.

Focus on the end points of the line: the elbow and the opposite shoulder. Make sure you elbow is firm. Hold it firmly at a right angle to the body as your body leans towards it.
