Take a Vacation
Pull out your credit card and go somewhere nice. There's nothing better than getting away from it all, and you totally deserve it! After all, you want to be able to brag about this for years to come. (Plus, you look great with a tan . . .)
Ahhh, vacation. Just the word is enough to make you sigh deeply, slow down your heart rate and put a dreamy smile on your face.
The trouble is finding that rare confluence of time and money that makes taking a vacation possible. It seems that when work is busy and you're earning great money, you have no ability to take time off and break away for a holiday. When work slows down or you're between jobs, the last thing you want to do is blow your limited supply of cash on a vacation. (Come to think of it, you are looking a little pale . . .)
And yet, every now and then the stars do align and you figure out a way to take a break. Maybe it's just a little weekend getaway or maybe it's a well-deserved sojourn in a far-flung destination. Either way, one thing we can assure you is that vacation spending tends to have an inverse relationship with vacation planning. So take the time to plan, to research and to save up your cash, and you are far more likely to get much more mileage out of those vacation dollars. In this chapter, we will look at some of the ways you can do just that.
Golden Rule: Saving for a Sunny Day
You want to relax, don't you? When you return from a holiday, the tan fades too quickly, you're back at work and it's like you never left. You will feel even more deflated upon your return if you have to spend the next several months paying off a massive credit card bill. How much more lovely to save up first and then relax on your vacation, knowing your pina coladas are already paid for? Once you return home and the realities of everyday life set in, you are free to start planning and saving for your next adventure.
