FACEBOOK (#4)

Where to find it: https://www.facebook.com

Let me start out by saying that I have numerous concerns over the use of Facebook for personal communication. Much about the platform is troubling to me; however, it is incontrovertible that utilizing the platform exposes businesses to, over, 1 billion users. This makes Facebook the largest social or business network in the world-free or paid.

A Facebook business page exposes your business to people all across the globe, literally. Facebook’s business pages provide all the essential components of a business website, with high SEO visibility and no cost, whatsoever. Businesses utilizing the platform have the ability to deliver status updates, to create links to external websites and articles, create event postings with RSVP functions, and much, much more. There is real value here for business owners.

Facebook is the most technologically integrated social media platform on the planet. Facebook connects to more programs, websites, and applications than any other service that exists today. This universal connectivity, automatically, creates a large and diverse Internet presence for a business with no cost, a very small commitment of time, and very professional results.

The same cautions apply here as were outlined with Twitter. The integration of personal and business information and posts can become an unmitigated disaster for a business. Stick to business related postings under this heading.

There have been numerous obstacles to visibility that are tied to privacy functions, as well as Facebook’s attempt to capture more revenue. This means that additional work needs to be done by the Page Manager to invite friends and associates to “Like” their business page in order to have it’s content freely seen. This may require the Page Manager to pay for Ads that were previously unnecessary in order to increase visibility. The good news is that for budgets as low as $1 per day a well crafted ad can target specific Facebook users in order to obtain additional Likes.

Facebook is here to stay and growing still, after 15 years, so make the most of it for your business.
