Cole sat in the command chair in the center of the bridge. The calm eye in a storm of activity. As the storm settled into a quiet calm, Sasha approached Cole’s right elbow.

“All decks report ready for departure, sir,” Sasha said.

“Thank you,” Cole replied. “Take us out.”

“Comms, contact Clanhold Docking Control, please; inform them of our intention to depart.”

Five seconds later, Jenkins announced, “Docking Control wishes us well, ma’am. They’ll hold the docking port for us.”

“Thank you, Comms. Helm, undock the ship, please,” Sasha said.

“Undocking,” Wixil said, her tail swishing side to side like a lazy metronome. Five minutes later, Wixil announced, “We are clear and free to navigate.”

“Set course for Sol, please, half-light to the system periphery,” Sasha instructed.

Wixil’s fingers danced over the helm console before she replied, “Course plotted and locked in.”

Sasha looked down at Cole, a slight smile curling one side of her mouth. “Sir?”

Cole grinned. “Punch it.”

Wixil keyed the command to execute the programmed course and speed settings.
