12 Add bugs and birds. Add some whimsical details to your project by painting a few bugs, bees, birds or even a mouse. There's an abundance of available reference material for detail work like this. Simply enlarge the images to scale on tracing paper, then position them and transfer them to the wall with graphite paper. These simple additions really bring a mural to life!

The Mural View. The color transitions between rooms should blend naturally, especially in open passages. For the kitchen walls, a lighter, parchment-like version of the dining room finish was applied for uniformity. For whimsical detail, a pair of bees hover to the left of the arched opening. The terra cotta pig, artificial ivy and glazed bowl complete the rustic scene.
