This is a quaint group that works on the nervous system to reduce blood pressure. Incidentally this group of drugs is found to be of great use in benign prostatic hypertrophy (enlargement of the prostate), especially in elderly males.

Side effects
These drugs could cause severe orthostatic hypotension, meaning that the blood pressure could fall dramatically on standing up, thereby causing fainting and at times, a fall. To prevent such an episode, the dosage is increased slowly and the blood pressure is monitored regularly.
