The ceremony marking the end of Kay’s life begins at the Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. A cortege will wind south down St. Albans hill to Georgetown, turn east on to R Street and on to the Oak Hill Cemetery, opposite Kay’s house, to which we will go for a luncheon after she has been buried at Phil Graham’s side. She will lie for always next to her husband. Now all is said and done.

Sam did not come down. Alexandra and Mary arrived in time for dinner last night. These two women, lovely with the power of maturity: in homage to their right, I told, as I have not before and would like to never again, the tale of the years of our association, Kay’s and mine, the almost melodramatic tale of how our scintillating, sick husbands had exploded in the sky right in front of our eyes.
