My bedroom window looked directly down into the valley where the Black Brook river flowed down straight under our den of iniquity (house) I could see if it was flooding or not, so when it was rough I used to tie a rope to the big bridge roof then get our Stephen and we would both swing over the raging river, dead exiting that was, the river did not emerge again until it reached the centre of Manchester 2 miles away that’s why neighbours went mad at us when they could catch us that is, but myself and Stephen were of the mind that the “Bombs” didn’t get us and the worst the water can do is get the muck of us right so it was fun.
