George: Who are you?

Critic: Don’t you know by now?

George: Don’t answer a question with a question. Who are you?

Critic: I am the person you always wanted to be. I’m smarter, and nicer, and I write better than you and unless you can do all the things I can do (and you never can), and write as perfectly as I do, no one will ever really like you.

George: Well, that’s a fine mess you’ve gotten us into this time, Ollie. I think I’ll call you Ollie because the image of Oliver Hardy is hardly one that I find intimidating.

Critic: Oh no you don’t. Ollie is not smarter, nicer, or better than you are. You should call me James. James Bond. I like that better.

George: Tough shit. You’re Ollie to me now, and that’s who you are going to stay. Besides, the story you are peddling to me is just a crock. It’s the story that an Oliver Hardy would have—that you have to do things better so that people will like you, not because there is a joy in doing things as well as you possibly can. You should do things for the love of doing them, not for the approval of others. A true James Bond would know this, but an Oliver Hardy would hide behind his “accomplishments.”
