“What is it?” Carson asked. Tyson glanced at him as he dug his phone out of his back pocket to reply.

“It's Aidan,” Tyson said, typing out his reply. “He wants to know if I've left yet.”

At long lake. Finalizing the extraction plan right now. Should head out in 20.

-Tyson

Don't bother, I found a ride. Rendezvous at Southworth Ferry Terminal at 1300.

-Aidan

Tyson blinked. “What?”

“What?” Jason asked, the others going still as they turned their suffocating attention on Tyson.

“I'm not sure. Aidan said not to bother with the extraction because he already found a ride.” He turned his phone around, though it was too far for any of the Stones to read it. “We're supposed to meet him at the Southworth Ferry Terminal at 1300 hours.”

Jason snickered and turned to Zac. “Pay up.”

“Yeah, yeah.” Zac pulled a sheathed knife from his boot and tossed it to Jason.

“What was that about?” Tyson asked, frowning. Jason grinned at him.

“Zac and I made a bet. He said Danny would wait for extraction like he'd been trained, and I said he wouldn't have to.” Jason wriggled the leather sheathed stiletto before slipping it into a deep, cargo pocket. “I won.”

“You won?” Tyson's brow furrowed. “So, wait. Does that mean Aidan escaped?” Panic swelled in his chest. “That he's on the run? If they catch him—”

“Aidan wouldn't have told you not to come if he was running,” Carson said, dropping a hand on Tyson's shoulder with a firm squeeze and a light shake to dispel his anxiety. “If he said he found a ride, then that's what he did.”

“You mean they're letting him go?” Tyson asked, bewildered, but no one else seemed surprised. Zac shrugged when Tyson met his eye.

“We told you he would be fine.”
