My stomach dropped and I spun around to find another officer standing there.

"What are you doing in here," he asked, "and who's with you?"

"Just me," Monica said, coming down the hall. "We found Pastor Sonya's dog at the church. She must've brought him with her when she... We wanted to see if he had any bowls or a bed or toys. Have you found anything like that?"

"You trampled all over a crime scene to find dog supplies?" he asked.

I shrugged. "We knew you were all too busy to bother with it."

"No, there's no evidence that she had any pets. Now leave before I take you to the Brookville jail for further questioning."

"Okay," I said. "We're sorry."

Monica and I hustled out the back door. "What are the others going to do?" she asked.

I nodded to the end of the house. "There's our answer."

Johnna was stuffed through the window, her bottom half wriggling to get free. We ran to help her the rest of the way out. Roy didn't hesitate to launch himself through, landing in a heap on the ground, groaning.

"Close the window," I told Monica, while I helped Roy up off the ground. "What's with you and shoving people in and out of windows, even yourself?"

"You coulda broken a hip, you old fool," Johnna said to him.

"I got us out, didn't I? Would you rather be arrested?"

Johnna just glowered at him. "I don't appreciate you man handling me."

"Trust me, lady, I had no pleasure in doing it."

"I'm glad we're out of the house," I said, "whatever the method. I don't know what Logan and Anna are going to do."

We stood around, pacing and trying to come up with a way to help them when not even two minutes later, they were unceremoniously kicked out the back door into the dark with us.

"How did you get out?" I asked.

Anna smirked. "Simple. We were making out when he came into the bedroom. He just figured we were some dumb teenagers who found a place to have some alone time and kicked us out."

"Did you manage to look around at all or were you lip locked the whole time?" Roy asked.

Anna whipped a manila folder out from under her shirt. "I think we need to look at this. It's financial records for the church and it's all we found before we had to improvise."

"I'll stow it in my knitting bag," Johnna said, taking it from her. "Nobody will look in there for any contraband."

"Let's split up so we don't all show up at the same time back in the wedding crowd."

Monica and I went all the way around to the far side of Doris and Chuck's house and joined the crowd at the end of the aisle. Roy ran right through the middle and made a beeline to the coffee urn with Johnna on his tail. Anna and Logan strolled through the yard holding hands like they didn't have a care in the world. Nobody would suspect any of us for just snooping through a crime scene, other than the officer who found us and fortunately, he didn't know me.
