“Alright, cupcake, Brady and I have been talking and we’ve decided you can help us out on this case,” Trey said smarmily as the duo approached us and stopped. “We need a grunt, an assistant to take our calls and do the menial work. Pour coffee and the like, what do you say, are you broads in?”

Lizzy and I just stared fire at the pair of them for a few silent seconds.

“Do you remember the conditions for me helping you out?” I asked. “The rules were quite simple. Don’t be a pain in the butt and stay out of my way.”

Trey gulped. “Right, that’s exactly what I was going to suggest.”

“I’m sure. I just need to ask you a few questions and I’ll investigate things on my own. Tell me everything that has happened since you arrived here.”

“I’ll tell you what’s going to happen,” Trey said. “I’m going to tell you everything that’s happened since I arrived, and then I want the two of you out of my hair while Brady and I do the real work,” he said, essentially rephrasing what I had just said. It became apparent that Trey had to feel like he was in control, even if I was the one doing the heavy lifting.

“You strike a hard bargain,” I placated. “Talk, idiot.”

“Here’s what happened, we arrived, called forensics. They confirmed the body belongs to this Violet girl.”

“Okay, we’re off to a good start.” In terms of the investigation, anyway.

“After that we had a bright idea, let’s check the cameras for the swamp dome, maybe find out what happened. We had a theory, she either fell in, or she was pushed.”

“Yep, that’s pretty much a given,” Lizzy said.

“Right, but when we checked the cameras, they were wiped. That means the footage was gone.”

“…Yep. Then what happened?”

“Then nothing happened for quite a while. We went to see the penguins. We looked at the lions too. This crazy storm came in overnight, and it’s not let up since. I’ll tell you this, people born and bred in Delfino don’t like the rain. We basically melt!”

“Let’s get back to the case. Did you talk to anyone, ask any questions while you were goofing around?” I asked.

“What do we look like, a pair of idiots?” Brady answered.

“Yes,” Lizzy said. “Yes. One hundred times yes.”

“We talked to people. We asked questions. No one knows what happened. Then we got a call on the radio. It looked like this girl’s room had been ransacked.” Trey turned his hand over and inspected his nails.

“Have you talked to her boyfriend yet?” I asked.

“She had a boyfriend?!” Trey said in surprise.

I let out an audible sigh and pushed my fingers into the bridge of my nose. “Alright, whatever. I think we’ve got everything we need from you. Lizzy and I are going to go now and investigate on our own. Can you two morons just stay out the way and not touch anything?”

“Here are your orders, Sponks,” Trey said. “Go and do the grunt work. Brady and I are going to go and check out the hotel spa.
