As much as I love light and airy spaces, there’s a place in my heart for the dark and handsome, too. Dark wood has been out of favour for the last few years, with many people, including me, painting wooden furniture white or opting for lighter woods. But now that dark wood is making a return, why not make the most of by teaming dark architectural furniture and ceramics with a dark painted wall to create a striking combination. A moodier colour palette can add depth, tone and drama to a rustic space. Experiment with handsome shades of dark inky blues, darker shades of grey and dirty olive greens. Panelled walls definitely benefit from a dark covering, as the details tend to stand out.
