“How goes your investigation?” Galloway asked once we’d done clinking glasses to seal the deal.

I blew out a breath. “It would help if Gianna could actually remember her murder.”

“That’s cheating.” Galloway winked. “Hit a dead end, have we?”

I snorted at his pun. “You’re only asking cos you’ve hit a dead end.” I was bluffing. Galloway had an excellent poker face, among other things, so I wasn’t really sure if he’d unearthed a viable suspect or not.

“Wanna scrap the wager and pool resources?” he offered, watching me over the top of his glass as he took a mouthful, then, as the flavors hit his tongue, pulling the glass away and staring at it. “This is really nice.”

“Thanks,” Seb said. “This little cabernet sauvignon is from my collection. But sadly, I’ve already told Audrey she can’t have red wine at the wedding. She’ll only spill it on her dress.”

I held up a hand in a stop gesture. “No more talk of the wedding. Honestly, I’ve had Mom and Amanda on my back today about my dress—sidenote guys, I’m not getting married in white—and I’m just about done talking about it.”

“I don’t care what you wear. Turn up in jeans and a tank for all I care. Just turn up,” Galloway said, curling his fingers around mine and giving my hand a comforting squeeze.

“Awwwww.” Seb swooned by my side. “You guys are the cutest. And of course, you’re not wearing white. Not with your coloring. Honestly, some people have no clue.”

“Back to Gianna’s murder. So, you’re admitting defeat?” I narrowed my eyes at Galloway, who grinned at me, totally disarming my thought processes.

“Are you?” he shot back.

“Pft. Of course not. I’m still investigating.”

“As are we.”

“Oh, stop it.” Seb flapped a hand at us. “You know you work better together. You’re both too proud—and competitive—to admit it.”

“He’s right,” we said in unison and then laughed.

“Okay, I’ll go first.” Galloway sobered and took another mouthful of wine before holding up one finger. “Suspect one. Harry Watts.”

I nodded. “Yep. He’s on my list. Gianna was going to co-sign a loan for a new gym, but she’s holding back as she thought he was half-assing the business plan.”

“I knew about the loan but didn’t know why the delay.” Galloway inclined his head. “That’s good to know.”

“Does he have an alibi? He told me he was with a client.”

“He does have an alibi, but he wasn’t with a client. He was at a building on East Street where he’s just signed the lease for his new gym.”

“What? Where did he get the money for the lease? Gianna hasn’t signed the loan papers yet.”

“Excellent question. But we have CCTV footage of him outside the building at the time of her murder.”

That ruled out Harry Watts as Gianna’s killer. She’d be pleased to hear that. It would be awful to know someone you considered a friend had murdered you.

“I spoke with Troy Barnes this afternoon,” I said. “He got in an argument with Gianna yesterday afternoon at The Bay. Turns out Gianna represented his wife in their divorce and totally annihilated the man.
