It is the Mindâs Nature to be Active
When you do certain Raja Yoga exercises, or the Zen method, you have to force yourself to make your mind very quiet and still. But that is not necessary; it is a wrong method, because the mindâs nature is to be active, and there is nothing wrong with the mind being active. So what you do is lead the mind along an activity which it likes. You give it a certain mental vibration, and because the mind is active, it works with it. But what the mind doesnât know at the time is that there is a trick in this, because that vibration will actually slow the mind down and make it very still and quiet. So, in the beginning the mind starts working with the vibration quite happily, and as it gets caught up with it, the mind becomes slower and quieter until finally it is stopped, without effort, without stress, without great force. Then, when the mind stops, you become aware of yourself as a Living Soul.
The only thing which stops this awareness is your mind. When you can make your mind quiet through meditation, then you realize that you are already in the Eternal Timeless Condition, but you normally have a vibration in your mind that veils your awareness of it.
Your Higher Reality, the Higher Light World, is a tremendous, bright vibration. But below it, your vibrating mind is like a great wall of a completely different frequency, so you cannot perceive your Higher Reality. When your mind becomes still and quiet, however, you perceive the Light World around you. You see the Light inside you and outside you. You are full of Light! The Light is shining everywhere, simply because the mind becomes still and quiet.
The problem has been that for many thousands of years people tried to force the mind to be quiet. Such techniques are not very productive because they work against the nature of the mind. The mind is allowed to be active but, because it is working with a very fine mental-wave, it becomes quieter and quieter in a very relaxed way, until suddenly the mind simply stops. Then you realize that you are transcending. You are going beyond the mind, beyond your personality. You are a timeless being, a Living Soul. Itâs as simple as that.
Meditation is based on the very simple truth that you already are a Living Soul. You donât have to make yourself be that; you already are that. It is simply a matter of realizing it, of coming to know it as a direct experience. The Kingdom of Heaven is within you already; Nirvana is within you already. All you need to do is connect to It in a direct way. That is all.
